Being a subject-matter expert is super impressive, and not an easy road. Once you’re there, you often have opportunities to showcase your knowledge by teaching others. So, you gather up your ideas, plan something out… and it falls a little flat. Or maybe it goes okay, but you know it was a lot and could have been more effective. You want your passion and magic to come through!

Teaching is its own beast. I mean, who among us hasn’t had a brilliant college professor that was a terrible teacher? It’s one thing to teach something, but to instruct so others can learn is a separate skill. That’s why in teacher certification programs, they have whole sections on HOW to do the thing, not just the content. It’s an art and a science. So if it’s not coming easily, no matter how great you are at your skill set, grant yourself some grace! I got you!

Who am I?

I’m Sandy Bean, the founder of St Pete Girl Bosses, and

• I have been a teacher since 2004, and I speak and instruct nearly every single week.
• I received awards for my teaching, from an exceptional score on my PRAXIS II certification test at the start of my career to Honor and Positive Image Awards in my classroom.
• I have taught children as young as 8 all the way up through graduate students in student teaching supervisory programs and methods courses– the ones that teach teachers HOW to teach.
• I have a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction, and pride myself in the creativity and effectiveness of my lessons and workshops.
• I want to show you some basic tenets you can incorporate into your classes, workshops, and courses that will ratchet up the effectiveness and fun of your instruction for adults.

Andragogy, which is the art of teaching adults (who are more self aware and self directed than kids, hence the difference), has some core ideas that are fairly easy to understand, and when you apply them to the content you are teaching, it makes a big difference in not only the impact of your delivery but also the motivation and interest of your audience.

• Grouping and Instructional Strategies (we will apply and brainstorm ways to use them in your class)
• Pausing, Processing and Pacing

And we will apply all of this to the content you bring with you.
